Island Nectar is a conceptual local food truck that would focus on creating healthy food fast. They prioritize the health of their customers by making it easy to order food quickly and safely, by making it easy to find out which products have common food allergens and re-ordering their favorites.
My role as UX and brand designer involved designing an app for Island Nectar Food Truck from conception to delivery as well as the branding. I conducted interviews, paper and digital wire-framing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs. I also created the logo and visual elements.
Project duration April to July 2021
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A
primary user group identified through research was busy families with children with food allergies/sensitivities.
Although most of the users were positive and would use this app, there are some changes that were made that
will hopefully help to simplify the app to make it more user friendly.
Pain points
Food allergens - It is difficult in knowing if restaurants can accommodate their food allergens and sensitivities.
Time - Busy families have a hard time juggling activities
Healthy Food - Sometimes it is difficult to find healthy food on the go.
Drawing multiple variations on paper allowed me to see different ideas without spending too much time and committing to an idea too early. For the home screen, I prioritized adding the ability to order Favorites from the home screen. Based on our user research, I prioritized the ability to add (Favorite) items to the cart from the home screen. Ordering previous orders was also a priority. It would give the option to save and rename group orders so they would be easy to reorder.
Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was placing an order from the previous orders, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.
